Seems like a pretty major exaggeration to say that fighting isn’t about skill. I guess Joe didn’t want to interrupt.
I recall watching him in the early days of MMA. Had very heavy hands. I never like him lol – still don’t although I did like this interview. His take on Big John being mean to him is what I don’t like about him – skill should be respected. He is just a bar fighter and an amazing one but his lack of respect for anything outside of violent emotion winning fights tells you all you need to know about him. I’m sure he still thinks he can beat just about anyone up. Not the type of person that is genuinely likable, but I don’t think he wants to be either. Someone who thinks being disrespectful is cool or fun is a pos. You can tell he still thinks this way too.

I met him at Duke’s Huntington Beach in maybe 2001 when i was 20. I was afraid to talk to him but my dad told him i was a big fan so he waved me over and when he shook my hand it was totally enveloped, his hand was giant. He gave a great smile and really had good energy. Absolute legend.
