Just like the beautiful colours and shapes of a kaleidoscope manages to captivate its audience, this talented acoustic pair – with the same name – has succeeded in conquering the hearts of music lovers, across the country, over the past ten years. The group is involved in every aspect of their music and provides listeners with a unique acoustic sound, mixed with a magical combination of melodies and instruments. This does not only appeal to audiences of all ages, but is also testament to their talent, passion and synergy. Kaleidoskoop, which currently consists of Jouba (founder) and Anique Jordaan, was established in 2006 when the original members (Jouba and Gerhard Liebenberg) were still students at university.
WEGBREEK, which was released at the end of 2016, is the first single from their new album, Gunsteling Seisoen, scheduled to be released in March 2017. This album is a celebration of a successful decade in the music industry. The song has a catchy folk-pop vibe, which will inspire you to sing along. “The song title speaks for itself. It is about the notion we all have to break away from the city, in search of new perspective, simplicity and inner peace…,” they share. The feel-good rhythm and melody of the song, combined with the sound of string instruments, immediately create a relaxing holiday atmosphere… it is the perfect song to listen to when you are on a road trip.” The track was very well received by radio stations and is currently featuring on Maroela Media’s Top 20 hit parade.
Paul Hugo from Bravo & Thatcher produced the video, which was filmed throughout 2016. Jouba and Anique shot most of the material while they were working on the album. “We thought that fans might be interested in how the writing and recording process for an album works. The biggest part of the video focuses on how we break away from our everyday lives to write songs for our album. It also reveals what inspired us on this journey (nature). At the end of the video we show how our ‘mission’ can only be completed once someone buys the CD, enjoys the music and is inspired by the message,” says Anique. Moolmanshoek Private Game Reserve, The Fig Tree House in Nelspruit, Little Big Studio
in Pretoria, Eersterivier, a mountain cabin in Swellendam and a big farm hut (Siloë) just outside Harrismith are just some of the sights that can be seen in the video.
According to the group the filming process was quite an adventure. “Jouba nearly fell off his horse when the saddle came loose at Moolmanshoek, we had to pretend to enjoy the cold water of farm dams and mountain streams during winter time and one of the wooden panels at the studio nearly fell on our heads, but it was lots of fun,” they gush. Although there were a few challenges and blunders behind the scenes, the result turned out to be perfect. This video will make fans fall in love with the group all over again.
