South Africa celebrates Lyle & Scott’s 140th Anniversary

with the launch of The 140 Series

To commemorate 140 years of Scottish heritage, artists, fans of the brand, and fashion enthusiasts have all been commissioned by Lyle & Scott to create an original masterpiece for The 140 Series.

Each creative taking part is invited to submit one artwork that represents their chosen year between 1874 and 2014. The 140 pieces of artwork will then be used to construct a timeline that represents Lyle & Scott’s success and tireless innovation since 1874.

Once all entries have been submitted, the 140 artworks will be available to view on the South Africa Lyle & Scott website, with viewers given the option to bid for the artwork of their choice. The live auction will commence on the 10th of September, inviting everyone to participate in celebrating this milestone with Lyle & Scott. The 140 masterpieces will take pride of place in a gallery for everyone to see. The proud new owners of the artworks will finally take their piece of history home.

The artists will receive full profit from their artwork; in addition to this the pieces of artwork that fetch the three highest bids will receive: R5000, R3000, and R2000, respectively.

To support this creative series, the advertising agency DDB will also offer two six month paid internships to student participants.

The 140 Collection by Lyle & Scott:

The 140 capsule collection launches this summer to celebrate Lyle & Scott’s anniversary and Scottish heritage. The collection sees Lyle & Scott delving into the roots of the brand to create a premium line of argyle knitwear and classic polos. The range will be distinguished by the original ‘L&S Ltd’ logo branding on the left chest, the famous eagle motif on the arm, as well as a label carrying the Royal Warrant marking the quality, craftsmanship and superiority of Lyle & Scott products.

What’s in it for students?

About Lyle & Scott:

In 1874 William Lyle and Walter Scott founded a knitwear company in Hawick, a small town in the Scottish Borders. The brand quickly progressed into the realms of fashion, applying its accomplished woollen skills to knitted outerwear. In 1975, Lyle & Scott was offered the ultimate reward for its emphasis on quality, expertise and craftsmanship when it was appointed the Royal Warrant by HRH, The Duke of Edinburgh.  Drawing on our 140-year knitwear heritage and from archives that include designs by Christian Dior and Michael Kors, Lyle & Scott still holds the Royal Warrant today and maintains its reputation for beautifully crafted, Scottish knitwear.
