There’s a reason JFK set the goal to send man to the moon AND safely return him. Sending a man to Mars is comparatively easy versus sending a man to Mars and having him return safely to Earth. Remember the Russians sent a dog into space with no plan to get it back.

It’s kind of funny how people want to go, flee or survive on a planet so hard that is already more hostile than Earth ever will be, even after a nuclear war.

What about the poor sunlight density that much further out? How big do the solar panels and batteries have to be on the surface of Mars to run everything robustly and how do you get that oversized basic equipment there? You (probably) cannot drill for oil on a rock that (probably) never had biomass, certainly never enough to be a reliable energy source (see point #1 above as to why.)
Also, ALL fuel for interplanetary travel will have to come from Earth. Fuel for take-off (earth), travel to Mars, slowing down / landing on mars, take-off (Mars), travel to Earth. That ALSO sounds like an extraordinary amount of mass to put into orbit and assemble for ONE manned mission.
Maybe, just maybe it is all a scam. That or it is a trans-human / trans-world cult where this is their religion and you and your family are not invited on the boat to the new world.

That’s why he made the robots whaaaaaat send the robots first to build habitats, mining operations and food growing facilities ect. Then send humans to an already set up fully functioning hab
At least they admit the high bar they most cross. You need to be autonomous. That requires a system to be researched to make it possible. Manufacturing, engineering, agriculture all need to be able to make people self sufficient. Do we have it now? No. But be can make those systems overtime. First on the space station, then the moon then finally to mars.
