The Most Decorated Military Soldier of World War II
Audie Murphy was rejected by the Marines and paratroopers for being too small, but he ultimately joined the U.S. Army and became the most decorated American combat soldier of World War II. In January 1945, near Holtzwihr, France, Murphy climbed onto a burning tank destroyer and single-handedly fought off a German assault with a .50-caliber machine gun. Despite being wounded and exposed to enemy fire from three sides, he held his position for nearly an hour before returning to his men and leading a counterattack. His actions earned him the Medal of Honor before his 20th birthday.
Murphy’s courage did not end on the battlefield. After returning home, he became a successful Hollywood actor, but privately struggled with severe combat trauma and an addiction to sleeping pills. At a time when few public figures spoke openly about the psychological effects of war, Murphy shared his experiences and pushed for the government to take the suffering of returning veterans more seriously.
Ryan Holiday reflects on the different forms Murphy’s courage took throughout his life. He displayed physical courage in combat, moral courage by refusing lucrative cigarette and alcohol endorsements, and personal courage by admitting that he was struggling. Audie Murphy’s story is a powerful reminder that real toughness is not simply the ability to endure pain. It is having the discipline to do what is right, the humility to tell the truth, and the courage to ask for help.

Waaaaa Andrew Tate baad😂😂😂
This sounds like another great interview Shaun🎉
Shocker, another plane crash.
There is no most decorated ww2 vet, if you research this, you find someone more decorated than the last every time. They just picked Audey Murphy to pin up.
Andrew Tate is none of the things that you said he is
TO HELL AND BACK 💯💥 grew up watching his movies good stuff 💯 They also have a master plan community named in his honor, that I’ve actually worked at several times in Menifee California called audie Murphy ranch…Because Audie Murphy had actually lived on and operated a thoroughbred horse ranch on that exact property during the 1950s and 1960s, the corporate developers chose to keep his name attached to the land as a tribute to his historic legacy as America’s most decorated World War II soldier.
When he through is awards in the ocean…what a class act.
Bring up virtues and I’m sold.
This guy’s a tool
Leo Major is the most legendary WW2 soldier. Nobody is even close!
He was always a little shorter than other guys and he had something to prove.
Small people tend to do better in war. Just look at what happened in Vietnam. Maybe it’s because they’re smaller targets to hit?
All the things that Audie Murphy did seems like a made up Hollywood story.
It’s truly unbelievable what he did 🤯
🫡🇺🇸
This looks very much like PROPAGANDA! The Military-Industry need public support for their wars and tax dollars as well as your kids
During World War II, the psychiatric fallout of combat was commonly referred to as battle fatigue or combat exhaustion. These terms were introduced to replace the World War I diagnosis of “shell shock”, reflecting a military shift in recognizing that the human psyche simply had a breaking point after prolonged or intense deployments. Audie Murphy suffered heavily from this invisible wound—often self-medicating and experiencing night terrors that led him to sleep with a loaded gun under his pillow. The condition wasn’t formally recognized by the medical community as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) until 1980.
YES I WAS TOLD ABOUT HIM IN 1986 GOD BLESS HIM
Audie Murphy would be pissed to find out that World War II was all bullshit and American bankers bankrolled the fucking Nazis, including Henry Ford building panzer tank engines in order to overthrow the monarchy systems and implement socialism throughout Europe and the United States, which is just a step away from communism.
❤
Audie Murphy is my hero!I named my main gander after him.He knows he is Murphy.Audie Murphy didn’t like his first name&preferred Murphy.
The South fought primarily for states’ rights and constitutional self-government, not slavery. They saw the Union as a voluntary compact of sovereign states, Northern hostility to their institutions, high tariffs harming their economy, and Lincoln’s sectional election threatened their sovereignty. Most Confederate soldiers owned no slaves and took up arms to defend their homes from invasion after Fort Sumter. He knows a lot about the Stoics not much about the history of his own nation though.
Audie murphie award is an honor in its self
Thank 💯 you for calling out the Sociopathic Psyopathic PDF FILE ANDREW TAKE 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
The definition of don’t judge a book by its cover
The World is run by PDF FILES ALL GOVERNMENT FBI CIA LEO very few aren’t involved in Child Sex Trafficking of children
Well sounds like we won’t be getting Andrew on the Show anytime soon😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Shawn i don’t know if you’ll see this but, I’ve noticed when i try to see your videos, youtube hides all of the christian related content. Is this just my imagination? Love you and love your work, god bless.
Sabaton wrote a song about him: “to Hell and Back”.
I have always had a fondness for Mr. Murphy, even as a kid in the late 60’s. There was something about him that made me like him. There was a genuineness and kindness in him to my mind. Today, I still like to watch his movies even though most were not very well done. Watch Walk The Proud Land with him and Anne Bancroft, it’s based on historical fact. She was great in it too and beautiful. To Hell and Back is one of my favorite WWII movies because it’s his story done by him.
Chesty Puller was the most decorated
Deep, wise comments by your guest, Ryan Holiday… justice, wisdom, courage, discipline. Virtues for any well-developed and mature human being. God bless you both and your loved ones.
That dude was my childhood hero. I didn’t break 5ft tall till freshman year of high school. Bad ass man.
Where’s the evidence that the Tate brothers did what they’ve been accused of and why aren’t they in jail. This guy was talking out of his ass
Rodger Young 5 foot 2 inches 130 pounds bad eyes bad hearing but a heart and courage bigger than most. The story is told in the song the Ballad of Rodger Young.
This is a good talk. We need integrity, we need honor, we need trust. Etc. RLTW
Never understand people joining the Army then crying Ptsd, like what did they think they were going to be doing ?
Auddie is like Mad Jack Churchill…..just behind Léo Major!!😉⚜️🦫
Sgt. Alvin York (of WW1 fame) was the same way towards endorsements. But, I never thought I’d see an Iron Maiden t-shirt pop up on the Shawn Ryan Show.
I’d take Bob Howard over Audie Murphy as the GOAT. They stopped giving Howard purple hearts after number 8. He also was put in for the MOH 3x in a 13-month period while serving in SOG.
Audie was SO small the Germans couldn’t shoot him…
My va shrink back in the early 90’s said that i had severe anger held in check by a antiquated honor code. Audie Murphy was one of my hero’s that i grew up with. Films by John Wayne, books by Louis L’Amour, and the vets in my family that showed me those same “antiquated honor code”.
If they don’t want you to do anything, they’ll make sure you don’t do anything. Because the evil to triumph, good men must do nothing. If good men just standby. Good men to do nothing evil will still win because they chose to standby and do nothing. And if you can’t beat them join them or do nothing and complain you decide.
Well I am commenting, I love the Iron Maiden tee shirt!
I agree with what he has to say on some of these conversations but attacking the Confederacy and the soldiers who died , really? It had nothing to do with slavery it had every thing do with Americans rights and being lied to from the U.S government and the South had every right to leave the union. Did you know Massachusetts would be the first to try to leave the union? People need a history lesson before the running of the mouth . I don’t know why they still call it the ” Civil War” definition – basically when two or more sides fight over the same country or government that didn’t happen the South made their own government so it should be called “War of northern aggression” Lincoln’s war was unconstitutional . That war was the complete takeover and control to lead us into what is happening today. You lost your freedom in 1865. By the way slavery is more ramped now than ever before and nobody fights over this now ? You are still being lied to.
Veterans
I’m sorry but you do the same spiel every episode about what you intended on doing and what you did it’s like every episode now you somehow have this talk maybe you need some counseling for insecurities
Love Audie Murphy. Texas boy! But dont agree with feeling shame cause of a Conf statue.
Giving a 19 year old the medal of honor is a moot point. He doesn’t even have a fully developed brain yet to process fear and trauma like a normal adult male in his early 30’s.
It’s Jesus Christ!!!!
Have you thought about doing an interview on the 442nd RCT in WWII? Their story can’t be forgotten. Audie Murphy is a legend.
