As a construction manager. I refuse to ever be part of any data center construction. It’s such a cut throat business. The hours they demand you to work on these data centers is horrible. I know what I do for a living in construction I will work some overtime. But the 84-96 hours a week every week for these data centers to be built is a horrible schedule. Working from

There’s so much misinformation going around with DCs. They’re not “surveillance centers” lol. Literally every digitized facet of your life requires these datacenters to function. The hyperscale AI datacenters that everyone loves to talk about make up a marginal fraction of the total compute load across the country. While I agree that utilizing water for cooling infrastructure is antiquated and needs to be outlawed for use of glycol liquid cooled rack infrastructure instead, apparently people don’t understand how the water cycle works lol. 30 million gallons of water is not being deleted from existence. It’s being evaporated or cycled back through treatment plants to be used again within the municipalities where it’s being consumed. I truly believe we should just be focused on ensuring tech companies build these campuses in remote areas away from population centers, which is inevitably where I see the industry moving anyway as these companies are starting to wake up to the impact of public perception as residents are starting to push back more and more.
Nonstop wild fires here in Utah + new proposed data center that will destroy our water supply. City hall meeting is next week, every council member needs to see this.
