This narrative makes absolutely no sense to me. Why are we not capable of being self reliant as a nation? At what point did depending on everyone else for the essentials become a strength instead of a liability?
You can absolutely participate in global trade and still maintain the ability to provide the core necessities for your own people. Those two ideas are not mutually exclusive.

China won’t take the chip factories. there probably is a destruction protocol that would destroy the factories before they are occupied under Taiwans policies.
There is nothing RARE about rare earth . They are very abundant and wrongful named.
As to TSMC they could easily move 2nm production here if they had to. Right now they like holding it over our heads in the hopes the USA will defend them. But we have a bad record of backing allies and Japan would be there first. Don’t underestimate the Japanese PI alliance
