Raised on a farm in Northwest Iowa, Eric Frohardt learned the value of hard work and personal responsibility at an early age. After one year of college, he joined the Navy and achieved his goal of becoming a Navy SEAL in 2000. Over nearly 12 years of service, he deployed around the world with SEAL Team Five and DEVGRU before being medically retired due to combat-related injuries. Since leaving the military, Eric has built and led teams across multiple industries, becoming a respected business leader, consultant, and speaker. Today, he is passionate about faith, family, leadership, and helping others reach their full potential while glorifying God through service.

Great advice for troops leaving the military and looking for purpose! Get a base hit and build on it.

Great observation that sometimes you can’t judge by appearance, measurables, and pedigree for who’s going to make it in BUDS or in other important life goals. So much for algorithms that seek to eliminate people without discovering what’s in their hearts.

To get through Hellweek, you have to want it more than anything you’ve ever wanted in your entire existence. I wanted to be a Deputy Sheriff in my county since I was a kid. I grew up watching cop shows, Rookies, Starsky and Hutch, CHiPs, etc. l was into guns and tactical stuff. When l made it to the Academy, my entire staff was SWAT team guys. To me they were God-like. The pinnacle of badass. However, they weren’t very nice. The PT was f brutal. Pushups to failure and the Front Leaning Rest until tears are running down your face. We started 64 and graduated 22. It’s absolutely impossible to push yourself to that level of pain. To get there, you have to want what’s at the finish line. Plus, l would have rather died than have these guys l idolized look at me unfavorably. It has to be something you can’t live without to suffer like that.

I have a suggestion for the continued success of Shawn’s podcasts. Many of the podcast’s guests use military acronyms, slang and other terminology that is not explained or elucidated by either the guest or Shawn. A lot of alphabet soup that I feel should be explained by either Shawn or the guest for the benefit of the listeners. Just my four cents (inflation)–mike

The guest needs to significantly cut out the words, “like…, um…, right?” It’s painful to listen to 4 hours of these words being excessively used. Don’t get me wrong, I think this is a decent man, but, ugh, listening to those repetitive words hurt my head.
