Pretty interesting topic. Don’t know if the Americans carried any firearms in their space flights but Randall made Knives of Florida made a model 17 Astro it was a 5 1/2 inch blade stainless steel with the handles that came apart that were hollow they were especially designed for the seven mercury astronauts who carried American first man space flights. Astronaut Gordon Cooper did the design on them. They needed a Knife in case they crashed or landed someplace for survival purposes. Also. They carried a case, Knife. That had a saw blade on top. It was like a mini machete. Case made it as late as they could. Also, they’ve made it so it wouldn’t spark and bang on stuff. They did not want sparks on the spacecraft. Take care every day above. Ground is a good day.
