Ok, let’s bring this down to Earth, the story came from a radio show, Coast to Coast AM, where someone called and identified himself as Mel Waters and claimed that he owned a rural property near Ellensburg, Washington.
He also claimed he dropped 16 miles of fishing line, but even if you were tying several spools, the line’s own weight would become enormous and at depth, the cumulative tension and the line’s mass would cause it to snap way way before 16 miles and that’s not even taking into account that long before that the fishing line would just literally melt with the heat from the Earth.
Not even professional deep-sea scientific lines for oceanographic probes go for 16 miles, let alone your run of the mill bass pro fishing line.
The cherry on top, the deepest hole ever dug was ~7.6 miles and was 9 inches wide at the bottom, it took 20 years to drill and they had to stop at 7.6 miles because it reached over 350°F so is anyone convinced that some guy with fishing line spools dropped 16 miles of it into a hole and it didn’t even touch the bottom… ?
I also have my bottom rig set up so that I can bounce a jig off the bottom of the mariana trench from 6 miles away with line to spare.

I heard the guy tell his hole story on Coast to Coast AM years ago. It sounded utterly rediculous, which was founded when The Why Files debunked it lol.
I regularly cast my line 14.5 miles while shore fishing in North Carolina. 16 miles is clearly possible.
They want to use that as a DUMB that they dont have to dig out.
No one believes it, especially AJ, the guy talking about it. It was a hoax, Cryin’ Ryan has intentionally edited it to make it seem like it’s a real story and intentionally taking it out of context, typical click bait trash.
Some bored guy called into Art Bell’s Coast-to-Coast 30 years ago and told this silly take and people ate it up and now it’s part of pop culture. No one,absolutely no one believes it, watch The Why Files episode, he lays out the myth/urban legend then debunks them when possible. This was easily debunked but a fun story.
