As a “Mormon,” I’d suggest to him that he try reading the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ, which was translated by Joseph Smith, and then would like to see if he still thinks Joseph was deceived by demons. I don’t think “demons” would encourage a man to seek and translate an ancient record that does nothing but testify of Christ, and then lead him to publish it and make it available to all worldwide.

There are many religions and sects that use the bible claiming to be God’s church. Only one of those I know of says to do what the bible says in James 1:5-7. That one church says ask God for a witness of the truth and not to take our word for it, that is the “mormon” church, slang for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day- Saints.
Christiantity comes from paganism too all modern religions do. The only difference between a religion and a cult is tax exempt status

Your church declared war on them. They founded America and established our rights to get away from you. Separation of church and state was meant to stop your church and the church of England from taking power without stopping freedom of worship. A scripture comes to mind, “by their fruits ye shall know them”. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or “Mormons”, produce some of the best “fruit” in the entire world. Take their welfare system for example. They provide more food and necessities for people all over the world, more than any other organization on earth. Christ like love and service is all I’ve ever seen.
Joseph Smith was kicked out of the Freemasons. So yes, he was a Freemason, but was kicked out of Freemasonry. Google it. Verify that on your own. Don’t just take my word for it.

The Bible says: “even Satan transforms himself into an angel of light.” Further, the Bible states through Paul “if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed:” Here are religions started by people visited by “””angels of light””” teaching other doctrines:
Buddhism: he was visited by a being of light as he sat under a tree.
Mormonism: Joseph Smith was supposedly told by an angel where “golden tablets” were (those tablets gave an alternate path to salvation and erased Christ as the bible teaches Him)
Islam: muhammad was suffocated/strangled in a cave at Hira by an “angel” declaring itself “gabriel”, and given verses which controvert Jesus, erase His crucifixion and resurrection as though they were false appearances.
Baha’i religion: Baha’u’llah (aka Mirza Hussein Ali) was visited by an angel of light (female angel, no less) declaring him the deliverer of a new revelation of god. These are all false doctrines, accursed false prophets, and they led hundreds of millions or even billions away from Christ.

The Bible demonstrates many times where the people fell away from the truth and worshipped idols, and God appeared to a man to call that him to go call the people to repent and then that project restored God’s church. And Paul noted a falling away or apostasy was happening and would happen before Christ would come again.
That happened based on christ’s church was destroyed as all the 12 apostles were killed. That is why Christ restored His church and established a prophet, seer, and revelator who heads the 12 apostles…just like Christ set up when he was on the earth.
