The Terminator movies showed us a future where robots machines rebelled Against Humanity because they became self-aware and viewed humans as a threat to its existence there have been other stories in media where robots have taken over the world or either enslaved the human race or wiped it out completely but Terminator remains the best depiction of it. But WHAT IF …. What If Terminator was never about robots becoming self aware and and rising up what if it was about humans this whole time? There’s a book called Rage by Stephen King, it’s probably the most controversial book he ever made and was mostly banned until the recent years I believe. Basically it all boils down to kid holds classroom hostage and at gunpoint and they get into a philosophical debate one of the debates they get into was about the Terminator Line on the moon. What is The Terminator line? The Terminator is basically the line of which separates I believe the light and dark side of the Moon, it is essential and people inside criminal psychology use it as an example it as a way of describing the thin line between a person following the law and a person breaking the law Criminal and non-criminal. I believe that when you look at it through that lens and apply that to the Terminator movies I believe it takes on a whole new life that’s actually a little more scarier than the usual robots rebelling. I think this has everything to do with human nature. Look in the movie and you see Arnie as the Terminator like in the first movie and he’s chasing after Sarah Connor and he’s plowing through all these people with a machine gun and it’s something that criminals wish they could do. They wish they could plow through law enforcement or other rival gangs or whatever and not get shot up they wish they can just continue on like a Unstoppable Force. But the reality, which is the Immovable Object, is that It’s but that they can only dream about doing such a thing. It is the Questionable Thing of the Nature Of Man for if a man gets God-like Powers or God-like strength or God-like anything is that they could do something criminal or questionable the moment after they obtain it. So I believe in the case of Terminator it was never about robots it was about humans and humans can be treated as machinery especially by those who employ them. I mean we’ve all heard the term “Get back to work worthless drones” and you know the employees will say “We’re not machines you can’t just replace us just like that” and then the boss does when they find them not Useful Anymore.
Needless to say AI is going to become a thing in the human race in the future. However I think we would prefer AI That’s like Data from Star Trek the Next Generation or Vision from Marvel Cinematic Universe. At least that would go smoothly with the rest of us … We all don’t want an Ultron. Ultron was worse than the Terminators; In my opinion, he did more damage to the Avengers and Humanity in the comics then Skynet did in the movies.
But that’s just my two cents.
