Yeah, I feel like the internet and advancement of communications and computer technology in general, along with social media, having the knowledge of the entire human species in your back pocket, as well as the extreme change in how news is covered and packaged for us* has made everyone more skeptical of everything they hear, whether it be from the government, news, even educators, etc.
That said, it’s easy to forget that politicians are no smarter, moral, empathetic, wise, etc. than the average American. It’s easy to forget that when they are put on some committee, or are involved in getting a new bill passed, etc., that they often have no idea what they’re doing. That they’re not experts in every subject, and often don’t have anyone who _does_ know about this stuff watching over them.
But even though we think/know that a lot of news stories, press releases, statements, etc. aren’t “true” or accurate, and that there is often a strong bias involved, etc., we still tend to trust or accept at least the basic idea of what’s being said because you have no reason(meaning for that particular story/statement, at that particular moment) to think they are lying or wrong.
*(e.g. the cable news networks, the 24 hour news cycle, the push to make news “entertaining”, the way most of what is considered “news”, is really just 1-5 people(who pretty much all share the same political views, often with 1 token liberal or conservative) commenting on the news, and giving us their opinions with some jokes or “feel-good” story thrown it, generally with at least two or three reasonably hot women/hosts to keep you from changing the channel in the drier, boring sections.)

💯 But what the majority of everyday people need to understand is that it’s often the top 1% who influence these events, and this pattern has existed since the beginning of civilization. Metaphorically speaking, history repeats itself, the only difference is that we have newer-looking toys.
We just need to take a step back, try to see the bigger picture, and ask ourselves: who is truly benefiting from all of this? Greed has always been considered the root of many evils, and when a nation loses sight of its values, the consequences can be serious.
As Uncle Mike (Mike Tyson) once said: “When you’re favored by God, you’re also favored by the devil. He’s coming for you too. You stay with who brought you here. You go home with the guy that brought you to the dance.”
I pray that we, as a people, can get ourselves together and rise above this in the long term. Otherwise, we risk losing the very things that generations before us fought to protect.
As a great president once said: “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream.
