The Lance of Longinus (aka Holy Spear) is displayed on Saturday in the 1st Week of Lent, every year. The event is a solemn ostension (public showing) of the relic, which tradition identifies as the lance used by the Roman soldier (later Saint Longinus) to pierce Jesus’ side on the Cross (John 19:34).

The Lance is one of three major Passion relics displayed during Lent at St. Peter’s (along with Veronica’s Veil and a fragment of the True Cross displayed for the faithful on other dates during Lent).

The Spear Of Destiny. Cool. It sounds like a weapon in STAR WARS. Wonder if George Lucas ever thought of doing an Indiana Jones story involving that relic…given that Hitler was obsessed with locating and using religious artifacts.
All the so called ”Artifacts” are fakes. The Spears design, that the Vatican refuses people to inspect fully, is a design from the 6th century judging by how it looks. The Roman Legion during Jesus’s time DID not use such a design. All these artifacts that the Church pushes are fakes, like all religions. The Lance was supposed to be in Constantinople until the Turks send it back to the Vatican, also at the same time there where 2 more so called Holy Spears, one in France and one in Germany and EVEN before that, there where fakes all over even during the Crusades. Knights who went to the Holy Lands wrote on the confusion how it was in Constantinople when they sailed from there only to be displayed in Antioch once they arrived…. Of course the process is controlled, because they’re protecting ancient manuscripts, historical records, and priceless documents, not hiding mythical artifacts. They’re also actively digitizing much of the archive for preservation and study. Claims about the Ark of the Covenant or the Spear of Destiny being secretly stored there really don’t hold up, especially when the famous spear tied to that legend is publicly displayed in Vienna…
