It’s going to sound weird but you got to let your subconscious read it for you. It takes longer for your conscience to do stuff then your subconscious you kind of have to space out while reading follow your finger with your eyes and eventually you’ll realize you’re reading like every third word but your comprehending everything in between that’s your subconscious
wait so if i just use my finger to scroll faster i can actually read faster? lol mind blown
Stop talking in your head when you read in your head and you quadruple your reading speed in a week.
Bullshit
finally an explanation for why i keep rereading sentences. it’s visual regression, not me being dumb.
Reading and retaining what you just read are 2 different things. Actually reading out loud to yourself can help you retain what you just read because you not only read it but you also hear it
I took a test to see how fast I read. I was told I read 600/min. I’ll give this a try. I’d love to double that.
Basically how i got a 26 on the DAT. straight up.
I just don’t need to speed read I want to fully understand what I’m reading and not have to back track or miss something because I’m rushing..just take your time, what’s the race?
I’m so cock eyed I read 12 lines at the same time. I look at ALL the women in the club… They kicked me out of every gym I’ve ever been to… But I can recite Shakespeare like a mofo!
Call someone with ADHD and I highly suspect a dyslexia, I will do that and I still can’t read fast because I’m still caught up on the same words again and again and again and nine times out of 10 I’m back to the beginning of the paragraph I can read two or three paragraphs about stopping if it’s in an open dyslexic font, but even then every now and then, but a normal thought I’m trying to sit there and read with my finger moving along I will stutter and go back
For tests that required reading I used to use a slip of paper to hide the words below to keep me from bouncing around.
Hmmm I was combating Visual Regression and didn’t even know it.
Just a thought…maybe we need more people to read slower and absorb the meaning of the text, not faster? 🤔🧐 Hmmm. Interesting none the less.
You may be able to read more quickly but that doesn’t mean you’ll understand the concepts faster I wouldn’t try speed reading through engineering class
I’m dyslexic 😮
I do this sometimes
This guy sounds like an idiot “don’t lick the possible eat the popsicle the faster you eat the popsicle the faster it will melt” thx doc
Totally agree with the follow the finger trick because it does speed you up
I would love to speed read so I could get through all the books I want to read in this lifetime, but I would also like to comprehend what I am reading and actually retain the information. Not sure my brain can do both 😂
I’m at 900 words a minute. (The average human top speed for speech is 200 words a minute- which is why if you subvocalize you will be maxed at 200 words per minute).
I do have to read technical texts slower than max speed (biology text books read differently than the Hunger Games- iykyk)
But the strangest experience is when I’m in the zone and start gestating pages. (Just look briefly and absorb all the information). That’s been harder to do since I’ve had children though-
There are no shortcuts. But there are preferences and necessary practices. For instance if one must also write about a subject then it will be necessary to practice writing it. If it’s just a test, then highlighting vocabulary and terminology for the specialization will be key to success.
I read about 50 books a year. I’m also a slow reader. I’m going to give this a try!
Look up bionic reading
Really? I assumed it was my wandering ADHD mind
I learned how to read in Texas and back then they added speed reading to about half the class and the teacher did it with the class where she covered the words so only 1 word at a time would show in the beginning and we said it outloud, then when we got to a certain level she brought in a machine that could do automatic covering of the words and as the year went on, we practiced longer and longer parts of the sentences. It was cool and I read a lot in a year even now.
Cool. I’ll try that.
On a book not a Kindle
It only bounced around if you need glasses or are dyslexic.
Sir!
Interesting. I’m a veteran elementary teacher. When I speed read, I use my finger.
Read from both sides
How I learned back in elementary school in 70s
I don’t know about speed reading per se, but I used to read a lot, and the more you read, the better you read.
+1 don’t say the words.
I speed read and dont know how but i do…
Hes right about the finger thing. I used to be a really poor reader. Now I read faster than most people I see/hear read. Took a speed reading class and it helped me tremendously. I’m not crazy fast or anything but have improved a lot and most importantly, fallen in love with reading.
Dude. My grade 2 teacher taught us this. What are we doing.
Nothing wrong with reading slow, and even repeat reading! All that matters is comprehension of the subject material ❤
Wow, I thought everyone did this as a kid. I spent my childhood in India until I was 13. When we really young, as far as I can remember, we were always taught to read like this. We followed every line with our finger as we read. I still do it every now and then. I didn’t know kids in the US weren’t taught this to begin with.
I have done that before and with my kids. For me, sometimes I lose the spot I change the sentence, so sometimes I use a ruler to highlight the sentence and can just drop down to the next easier. Might be due to ADD, I think.
That’s how children read 😂 not adults with an education 😂
