Spring Fiesta 2026 Review: Brilliant Lights, Frustrating Entry

Brilliant Lights, Frustrating Entry
Words and photographs by Dale Kopping | DK Expressions

Spring Fiesta 2026 brought six stages and thousands of music fans to Wild Waters Complex in
Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, on Saturday, 3 October 2026. I left impressed by its dazzling butterfly
Main Stage and excited about next year. Getting into the festival, however, was an
experience the organisers need to improve.

The lights, effects and scale of the Main Stage gave me plenty to capture through my lens.
Before I could enjoy any of that, I had to work my way through a frustrating arrival and a
confusing parking process.
The butterfly Main Stage was my visual highlight of Spring Fiesta 2026.

Spring Fiesta Main Stage

Getting into Spring Fiesta: traffic control needs
attention

The traffic control was dismal during my arrival. At times, it felt as though there were a
hundred different car guards directing motorists all over the place. From what I could see,
many appeared to be operating independently, with no clear indication that they were part of
the festival’s official traffic team.

The result was confusion about where to go and which instructions to follow. A festival
attracting thousands of people needs a clear traffic plan that works on the roads approaching
the venue, as well as at the gates.

An hour and a half trying to get through

I spent approximately an hour and a half trying to get through. By the time I finally reached
the first entry point, I was being told that I could not continue. That was particularly
frustrating because I was attending as media and had a VIP parking ticket.

VIP parking ticket confusion

The attendant told me he could not scan my parking ticket. After already spending so long
trying to get past the traffic, I refused to turn away. Eventually, he let me through, and I
drove on to the VIP parking area.
That inconsistency needs attention. A parking ticket should lead to a clear process, and a
scanning problem should have a clear way to be resolved. People should not have to insist
before someone finds a way to let them proceed.

Media accreditation: a welcome moment with TuTone Communications

Once I had parked, I walked to the VIP Ticket Office and saw Melanie from TuTone
Communications
. We chatted for a bit before she handed me my accreditation.

It was a welcome moment of friendly, straightforward communication after the frustration
outside. With my accreditation collected, I could finally turn my attention to the festival.

Six stages gave Spring Fiesta 2026 a different feel

This year’s layout was completely different, with six stages and thousands of fans across the
festival. That change was one of the first things that stood out once I was inside.

Different sounds across the festival

The six-stage programme covered the Spring Fiesta Main Stage, Soul Candi Classics, Stay
True Sounds, The Hip Hop Stage, Piano Dreamland and Bakone AfroTech. House, hip hop,
amapiano, deep house and AfroTech
all had a place in the festival’s announced programme.

That variety is one of Spring Fiesta’s strengths. It gives fans different sounds to choose from
and gives the festival more than one focal point. The outdoor and indoor settings also brought
different looks to the photographs I took.

The butterfly Main Stage was the visual highlight

Lights, effects and giant LED wings

The butterfly Main Stage was amazing. Its huge illuminated wings, changing screen visuals,
lights and effects made it the standout visual feature of my Spring Fiesta experience.
As a photographer, I loved the contrast between the crowd and the colour pouring from
the stage. My images show the wings filled with vivid blues, reds and pinks, as well as
illustrated vehicle graphics stretched across the screens.

Photographs that capture the scale

Looking back through the photographs, the size of the butterfly design really comes through.
The crowd and scattered phone screens in the foreground give a sense of just how large the
stage looked after dark.
It was the kind of stage design that made me want to keep shooting. Those are the images I
will remember when I think back on Spring Fiesta 2026

What Spring Fiesta should improve next year

One clear traffic plan

Official traffic marshals should be easy to recognise and give consistent directions. General
parking, VIP parking and media access routes need clear signs before motorists reach the
busiest points. Activity by independent car guards should not leave visitors unsure about the
official route into the event.

A workable parking-ticket escalation process

Gate staff need to know which parking tickets are accepted at each entry point, how to check
them and whom to call when a ticket cannot be scanned. A supervisor should be available to
resolve those problems promptly. That would make a real difference to an arrival like mine.

DK Expressions verdict: already looking forward to next year

Spring Fiesta 2026 gave me a frustrating arrival and a fantastic visual highlight. The traffic
control and parking access need work, and having media access with VIP parking did not
make that process straightforward.
Once inside, the changed layout, six stages, thousands of fans and brilliant butterfly Main
Stage gave me plenty to enjoy and photograph. The lights and effects were a particular
highlight.

I can’t wait for next year. Better traffic control and a clearer entry process would help the
experience live up to the spectacle waiting inside.
