I don’t think we will ever render the infantryman or SOF operator obsolete. Only times where a new disruptive tactic, weapon or technology makes it easier to kill them. This will then be patched by a new counter technology or weapon nullifying it, returning the Infantrymen or SOF operator to primacy.

When the war in Ukraine kicked off, I was in a dark place and I thought that getting back in the fight would help me recover. Thankfully, my beautiful bride was talked me out of volunteering, by making me realize that I have an amazing life with an amazing family. Now that drones have become commonplace in the battle space, I am happier than ever that I did not go.
Will a part of me always want to get in the fight? Absolutely.
Have drones made that part of me smaller? 1000 fucking percent! I’ll pass on the Radio Shack airborne death squads.
