Spray the island with vinegar for a few years. It will penetrant the soil and kill that crap. I spray my yard three times a year for a few different reasons. Its really good for soil believe it or not, especially high nitrogen soil.

Valley Fever you say? I live in the Phoenix area. We all have Valley Fever and most of us have no idea or our bodies can fight off the fungus. It can REALLY mess up some folks (or dogs) but there must be some contributing factors with Ritland that made it so much worse.
