First Situational Awareness. If it’s a place like school/college, a flashlight is the best choice. Improv self-defense, illumination, signaling, etc. Everything else (besides a gun or dedicated self defense knife) is kind of gimmicky. Accessibility is a big factor and there are tons of low budget, high output options out there. Streamlight is my go-to for personal use and gifts.
Crazy confidence too. I wouldnt have a kid do this unless incredibly necessary, but I was being followed non-stop in El Paso at 0200. So I pulled out my boot knife and started walking towards them like a total nut job. He stopped following me. Then I walked to where I saw party lights (cops pulling someone over). It is that, “I am crazier than you” confidence that is also needed when necessary.

I bought myself a 1000lm flashlight and later i got one for my wife. It blinds you in a well lit room it will surely blind a guy when it’s dark out. Also, when you hold a source of strong light the attacker has no idea what happens behind that source of light. You could have your fist, a pen, a knife, a baton ready to strike, and they would have no idea where to look, what to block. I bet they’d also never expect that a crotch kick is about to land and take them out immediately. Get yourself a flashlight guys, best thing is, it’s not a weapon, nobody can take it from you.
My 17yr old daughter has been doing JJ since as he was 7, but awareness comes before that, and after God!

Glitter. Makeup, lotion, fun cheek or arm tattoos. Especially clothing. It gets everywhere and an attacker doesn’t want to be marked by evidence that they can’t easily get rid of.
I think these two men are totally missing the mark. Girls are raised to not offend people to not hit people and to not hurt people. I think the best thing you can do for a girl is to stick her into a self-defense class or some sort of martial arts so that she gets comfortable hitting people. She probably also needs to get comfortable yelling no at someone in public and causing a scene. Predators choose and pick the girls they know are scared to hit back and scared to scream and scared to hurt
This goes for all sons and daughters. Can we stop acting like attacks and kidnappings only happen to girls?

Put your kids on jiujitsu. Teach your kids how to avoid being in wrong situations and environments. The combination of both after only one year of teaching and practicing will save lives.

The first thing my father taught me was how to defend myself he put me and my sister outside and had us fight she would have us work on our penmanship ask us about geography. One of the best things he taught me is how to lose a fight that there’s always going to be somebody bigger and better that there’s no such thing as a fair fight. I’ve seen girls just shut down or they try to fight back and then don’t follow through because they’re scared. I’ve seen men that have the upper hand in a fight and they let go or panic or don’t put the person down and they end up getting severely hurt. You also need to know when to walk away and to pay attention to your surroundings.. but the first thing this man should have said is to teach girls how to defend themselves and just like any weapon know o one to use it and when to walk away and we need to teach our men that women don’t want to be men we just had to take on the role if we’re allowed to be safe we become soft but there’s a lot of anger in men and a lot of women instead of leaving a man demasculate him there’s a big difference between you look stupid in that shirt change it and you know that green shirt you look so sexy in it will you wear it tonight. How we talk to people matters and how we allow people to treat us and what we accept matters.. men and women both have their skill sets pound for pound men are absolutely stronger but we handle things differently women are actually built to handle more pain and we’re better leaders, but until we start learning that we shouldn’t be judged by the same standards because we’re both unique for a reason and until we start respecting our differences and realizing that were two halves of a whole until we learn how to talk to each other as adults in general properly and be honest things will continue as they are
bee/ hornet spray. works way better than pepper spray and shoots 15 to 20 ft further in a direct stream.
I started giving my 8 year old daughter a quarter for every shady person she could point out as we’re going about our day in public.

Everyone of those things will only make the situation worst. A woman cannot generate enough power with that small of a weapon in the flashlight. The pen? Seriously?! OC spray maybe… sure. Depending on brand and strength. A taser would be better. One that fires probes. I swear some of these folks are so far removed from reality.
