I had bullets fly over my head and I heard a whir sound not a snap..
It feel like getting r punched really hard by the wind
Remember when you could afford a can of Cope without having a $200K+ a year job? Better times. Was gonna buy a bag of Red Man last week and it was over $11 a bag 😢
Billboard bang hit the deck
🦅
Had a similar experience my first time. It was in an afghan village adjacent to our COP, our first dismounted movement outside the wire on our own after we RIP’d the other unit.
In the first instant it happened I wondered if I was the only one who heard the noise. I looked around, everyone was just kind of standing there frozen in place, wondering if we heard what we thought we heard.
I didn’t want to look like a “pussy” and be the first to dive for cover. I didn’t want it to look like this was my first time under fire (turns out we were all thinking the same thing). I wanted to look brave and cool and collected, like this was no big deal, I’d done it before. And worse, I didn’t want to go diving for cover if it wasnt actual enemy fire… So I just kinda stood there like an idiot. We all just kinda stood there like idiots.
Well, except my squad leader, who was completely fucking beside himself trying to figure out what the fuck was wrong with all of us.
About the time the 3rd or 4th round cracked and I heard the first report, my squad leader close fist punched the back of my helmet while simultaneously grabbing my battle buddy’s drag strap on his vest and yanking him to the ground backwards. He pointed at a berm next to the road and then at the ridge where by now the guns from the LRAS and towers at the COP were unloading rounds onto and I did what I was told.
My brain, throughout the entire engagement, kept trying to trick me into thinking this wasn’t as serious or dangerous as it actually was, or that this wasn’t actually enemy fire because it wasn’t like the movies. You couldn’t see anyone actually shooting at you. I was expecting some guy in a man dress hip firing an AK in the middle of the street in front of us. Real life, it turns out, doesn’t look much like Hollywood.
I can count on one hand the number of times I saw anything more than a dust cloud or a muzzle flash during a gun fight or ambush.
The next time this happened, and for the rest of this deployment & subsequent deployments, I kinda went on auto pilot and leaned on training & muscle memory, and basically put rounds wherever my squad leader or the turret was aiming.
But as they say, you never forget your first time. And my first time under enemy fire was pretty awkward and clumsy and stupid… Come to think of it, that applies to a few other “first times” in my life too lol.
Snap snap
I got shot at when I was 8 years old and heard the same damn thing
First time I was shot at was when I played paintball with some USMC customers. I was so scared at first, then I was quickly hunting them. 😅
The first time I got shot at I was 14 at a house party in San Bernadino
WoW…..how foolish we can be, when we know better?
Father God, Leed us, Guide us, and Deliver s to the Truth and Jesus, Amen!!
That’s actually fuckin hilarious 😂
Nothin something to be proud the weapons of mass destruction was bullshit and we all know it shawn how can you smile at the fact you and many of our fellow Americans killed innocent people for a lie and you smile about it now
Funny stuff
I was in my backyard. Hunters.
Os it eyeraq or eeraq?
It’s too bad a lot of your soldiers are made it home
I don’t miss that thhhwapp noise. I don’t miss it at all.
I’ve been in accidental crossfire severl times (as a civilian) one time being in middle school, was always a good chuckle. HIT THE DECK! 🗣🗣🗣
I dont think sean onows what a cracking sound is hah
It is a miracle this man is still alive
First time i was smack dead center in the middle of a fire fight on by sides of me. I had bullets going by my head from both sides. I completely froze. I couldn’t move. I didn’t even realize i wasent moving or the fact that i was in the middle of a gun fight until my friends literally picked me up and throw me over a fence. I woke up out of the daze i qas in when i landed on the other side of the fence.
against men in pajamas and sandals…
Marine corps shooting range will teach you the sound. You’re below the range lifting up targets. There’s a sound and then you see it hit the dirt above you.
When I got shot at it sounded more like a zip/zing or like a tinny sorta buzz sound
I was a cherry 240 gunner and was moving to our firebase and got hit on our 2nd day in country. I thought it was fireworks until I saw impacted rounds. I totally blew my load but I dont think I ever aimed lol.
clown
Funny when people who have never been in the military have getting shot at stories
I know literally hundreds of you can relate to this, followed by: “WELL WHERE TF IS IT COMING FROM???”
It doesn’t sound real at first. Then reality sets in
Getting shot at for the first time has got to be so terrifying, like realizing that someone is actively trying to kill you
Some Marine platoon leaders in the iraq or afghan war complain of the “phenomenon” of their well-trained grunts experiencing the crack of enemy rounds missing their head, which made some of those Marines shoot their carbines blindly over their head while ducking behind cover. Their CO screamed at them to stop doing that, but to aim & shoot at enemies like Marines are trained to do.
In the first air combat fight in Top Gun, Merlin’ s close call with death made him freak out & quit to be with his adorable baby & his hot young wife.
Snap, you hope crackle & pop aren’t with him😂😂💀
i’ve never heard one crack but i’ve heard one whistle by me a couple times throughout my life. its a sphincter tightener for sure 😂
First time I was “downrange” was at around 10 years old. A neighbor up the hill.was butchering some.cows and a bullet either missed or went through. I was in our filed with my dad when I heard the loudest bee ever. I was looking around for it when my veteran dad tackled me. He dragged me to a little berm and started yelling all sorts of new words uphill.
We got some free beef as an apology.
You know you’re getting shot at when it sounds like your teachers clipboard when you flick it. My friends and I got shot at doing donuts in a farmers field. 😂
That sound is very distinct once you’ve heard it before. Your description is pretty good. Telling where it’s coming from is something else.
So shawn never spent time below the berm?
crack is fine its the wizzing bee sound when it’s close
I worked on a rifle range immediately prior to my first deployment. Having spent a good bit of time in the pits, I was used to bullets snapping overhead. So much so that the very first time I got shot at, everyone else took cover, and I stood there for a second or two before my brain engaged, and I got down. Total dumb@$$ move. Took endless ribbing for it, and rightfully so. Fortunately, they were really bad shots.
“A hiss means it’s close a snap means NOW THEY’RE SHOOTING AT US”
God i miss that sonido, yes i nneed a sheink😮😢
Bush was responsible for vet suicides
This is why I love the rifle range in the military, especially the Marine Corps because you get to learn the difference between a snap and a pop
The American ego so massive we would rather look tought than take cover from incoming rounds. Loling
Having a dip
I’ll say Shawn thats one thing the marines prepare you for when you spend a lovely afternoon in the pits at the range. That snap really makes you duck when it’s enemy fire haha
Getting shot at is a few inches away from getting shot, and that doesn’t feel like anything.
Long live the resistance who fought and died fighting the invaders
WHERE ARE THESE FUCKIN RAT TRAPS
